UPDATE: Mark is still smiling today at 10:00 am. HOLY MOLY!

Snowfest at USC

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Mammoth Mountain and the USC Ski and Snowboard Team brought snow to downtown Los Angeles on a particularly sweltering November afternoon for the first ever Snowfest on the USC campus. As the day started the sun beat down so strongly it was hard to remember ski season has already begun, but once skiers and snowboarders hiked to the top of the 13-foot scaffolding and strapped in it was clear that there are plenty of southern Cali college team shredders who are more than ready to start the cold season. Mammoth Unbound Terrain Parks brought the mountains to them by trucking in loads of snow and setting up a sharkfin box and a flat box. DJ Jacques provided beats all day from a shady spot, trying his best to aim the speakers away from the math class next to McCarthy Quad. Vendors passing out giveaways and providing prizes for the contest winners included Nikita, Dragon, Forum, Skullcandy, Quiksilver and Thirty-two. The open rail jam was judged by Red Bull rider Zach Leach as well as Mammoth riders Molly Aguirre and Gabe Taylor. Contest winner Dominic won a full outerwear set by Quiksilver. Props to USC student Kevin Chang, SnowDogg and the sole female skier, dubbed Miss Consistency. The rail jam was followed by a Red Bull-sponsored after party at the Key Club on Sunset.

Another Freezing Day!

Monday, November 19th, 2007

It is so cold right now! There aren’t any guns blowing snow as of right now, but the weather channel is claiming low temperatures tonight! I just checked the weather service website, and they are saying that tonight’s temperatures look to be around 22 degrees. This is such wonderful news!! Click Here for the Weather

“Snowmaking is a highly specialized process. A delicate combination of temperature and humidity is required: around 34 degrees with a low relative humidity of around 20 percent. At 20 degrees Mammoth can make 1 acre foot of snow per hour. Due to Mammoth’s southerly geographical position our uniquely dry air enables us to make snow when most other resorts can’t.” CLICK RIGHT HERE

Mikey, our Cat Crew Manager, just informed me that there is a new feature in our single park on Broadway. He put an UP BOX where the drop-in use to be. Should be fun. We are working with what we got, to make it fun out there for you.

Thanksgiving as most of you should know is on Thursday. I can’t wait. There isn’t anything better than enjoying friends and family, and delicious food. At least that I can think of. What are your plans for Turkey day?

Burrrrr!

Friday, November 16th, 2007

This time of the year usually is pretty nippy, and I never seem to get use to it! My walk this morning was sooooo cold!

The afternoon has been better, with warmer temperatures, lucky for me, unlucky for the snow :(
The weather is saying that Monday we might get some snow! That would be amazing! Also, the temperatures are supposed to be very low this next week, which means that we could blow some snow around the hill.

Monday, Monday!

How beautiful is it outside!!??!!

So, the weekend is finally over, and all our friends are gone, town is quite, and calm. Ahh, I love this place! The weekdays are so perfect in Mammoth, lift lines are casual, people seem freindlier, and even the parking is better. Everyday is still heavenly whether it is a weekend or a weekday. Every single morning on my drive up to work, I think about how lucky I am to live in this place!

What’s your favorite thing about Mammoth?

Monday, Monday, so good to me
Monday mornin’, it was all I hoped it would be

Snow!!

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Its been a long week, with very nice, warm temperatures through-out. When all of a sudden yesterday this cloud came, and the wind started blowing.

I woke up this morning, took a gander out my window, and all I saw was drenched ground. I did my routine, and started my drive for the mountain. I could see that there was snow up here, but most of the drive was rain, and more rain. I was anxious to see how much snow there could possibly be. I passed the chair 4 parking lot, it was still raining, and then…. SNOW!!! We got about 3 inches so far at my office(thats a guesstimate), and its still snowing. I hope that it keeps snowing all day!

 Keep doing your snow dances!

How do you feel about this storm, do you think it might produce anything significant?

Ciao for now.

Saturday.

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Good morning to everyone! It is Saturday, and the sun is shining! Even though the sun is out, the temperature is very low, which is good news, so that our snow sticks around.

Saturdays are usually very busy days in this little office, today is going to be a great one, with all our friends finally being able to make it up here to make some turns, and visit. We also will get to meet all of our new snowboard team kids. Very exciting to see new faces, and catch up with the familiar. This year is going to be so much for the Junior Snowboard Team kids, a new coach, cool uniforms, and getting to ride so often (I’m pretty jealous!!).

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day, and you should try to get up here, and have some fun!!!

ciao for now.
